Watch: Cop shoots black man in the back, charged with murder
This shocking video has been released by someone who was sharp enough to catch it on tape. This is a video of the shooting of Walter Scott by North Charleston Patrolman 1st Class Michael Thomas Slager. As you can see the in the video, Scott was no threat to the officer as he tried to run away. The officer shoots the man in the back as he runs off, leading to a charge of murder.
According to the The Charleston Post and Courier, the incident occurred as Scott was fleeing a traffic stop. The man who shot the video has asked to remain anonymous. Murder charges were filed against the officer after the video contradicted the statement that had been previously released through Slager’s attorney.
Mayor Keith Summey said that he supports the decision to arrest the officer after the shooting.
“When you’re wrong, you’re wrong,” Summey said. “If you make a bad decision, don’t care if you’re behind the shield or just a citizen on the street, you have to live by that decision.”
Slager’s attorney, David Aylor, said that he is no longer representing the officer.
So, we ask you: If there had not been videotaped evidence of this shooting, what story do you believe the officer would have told his superiors? Would he have even been indicted?
