Watch as LeBron James pays homage to Jim Brown
By Victor Ochieng
Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James put up a sterling performance in the third game of the NBA Finals, which isn’t so unusual. What caught many people’s attention was what the 11-time NBA All-Star did a moment before the game.
King James walked to the courtside, put his hands together and bowed before Cleveland Browns legend Jim Brown.
And it didn’t only move the people who saw it, but Brown, too. He also motioned back at James, putting his hands together in acknowledgement.
“It was an honor for this young man to pay tribute to an old soldier,” Brown told Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot. “It was very special to me. We all want to be acknowledged by our peers and by good people and respect is a great word. I look at it as a gesture of respect at a moment when LeBron is the man.”
That moment had significance in Brown’s life. He said, “It was one of my favorite sports moments of all time. He didn’t have to be thinking about me, so for him to even have the brilliance to show that kind of respect, it doesn’t happen too many times in my life. It was a wonderful feeling.”
The 79-year-old legend is known for his 9-year career that broke several NFL records while he played for the Browns.
Sporting News named him the best football player ever, and he’s considered one of the greatest pro athletes in the history of sports. Brown became the first player ever to hit the 100-rushing-touchdowns milestone.
Having shown respect to an athletic hero in front of the world, especially at his prime, it’s only expected that James will also be receiving enormous respect even in retirement.
