I Got Your Back, Homie: Obama Voices Support For Colin Kaepernick’s “Active Citizenry”
BY: John “Hennry” Harris
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is definitely #WINNING since facing extreme backlash across the country for his controversial decision to not stand during the National Anthem at NFL games.
Now, President Barak Obama has voiced his support of Kaepernick’s protest at a news conference in China following the G-20 Summit.
The POTUS says that Kaepernick is “exercising his constitutional right” to sit out the U.S. national anthem, but the president acknowledged that the silent protest is a “tough thing” for military service members “to get past to what his concerns are.”
President Obama also hailed Kaepernick for what he called “active citizenry,” further stating that he would “rather have young people who are engaged in the argument than people who are just sitting on the sidelines and not paying attention at all.”
Obama said that he has not closely followed the controversy surrounding Kaepernick’s actions while he has been fulfilling his presidential obligations overseas, but the American public’s response was one that he could not escape his attention.
The biggest outrage has been centered around the perceived lack of patriotism and disrespect towards military serviceman for his silent protest, despite the fact that Colin Kaepernick carefully, plainly stated in interviews that was definitely not the case and even voiced concern for the treatment of our military veterans dealing with PTSD and returning to America only for the government not holding up their end of the bargain.
#VeteransforKaepernick began trending as military veterans poured in their support for Colin Kaepernick and his stance, which diluted the initial (faux) outrage, Kaepernick’s game jersey is now one of the hottest sellers in the NFL and he has made the roster for the San Francisco 49ers.
But getting the support from the POTUS .. that’s BOSS !!!
Just so you get the message CLEAR, here is EXACTLY what Colin Kaepernick said when he explained his protest:
