Ain’t no protection, early detection is key

She don’t care if you White or the same complexion as me

She sneak into your life in the night like a thief and

Suck the life out your wife like a leech

– Monsta Kodi, Wipe Your Tears

Our women are under attack  ..

Halloween is just around the corner, but this beast affects 1 – 8 U.S. women in their lifetimes – that statistic alone is scarier than any story about the Boogey Man.

Breast cancer is the monster I speak about.

According to U.S. Breast Cancer Statistics, this year alone an estimated 252,710 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in U.S. women with 63,410 cases of non-invasive breast cancer.

Breast cancer is even expected to be diagnosed in 2,350 MEN this year !  That’s right fellas, although diagnosis is rare, we are not safe either !!

It takes a Monsta to fight a monster and one rapper is inspiring others to fight and raise awareness every step of the way.

Bronx-bred and Jacksonville, FL based rapper Monsta Kodi has drawn the line in the sand as he stands with breast cancer survivors in his new video for the single, “Wipe Your Tears“.  Monsta Kodi, who has already won an Akademia Award for the inspirational song, declares his unwavering support by standing in solidarity with those who are battling the disease.  He pledges to “be right there, to wipe your tears” through the pain, the recovery and ultimately the triumph.

Do you realize how small 1 in 8 really is ??

Even while writing this story, one of my high school classmates, CJ Hodge, made her path to recovery with breast cancer public.

Look around you … How many women in your life have had to hear those 3 words –  You have cancer … It can be sobering.

Breast cancer is a monster – but there is a bigger Monsta that makes the ground shake under the disease’s feet.

That Monsta is HOPE, LOVE, COURAGE, SUPPORT and AWARENESS.

Fight with CJ and other women all over the country – let the tears you wipe be tears of joy !!
